ABOUT the author
Meet Ray Simmons
Author - Fighter - Motivator
Ray Simmons was born and raised in the South Bronx of New York. Known for his charisma and leadership skills, Ray quickly made a name for himself on the rugged streets of his neighborhood. However, he also fell victim to those streets, becoming a statistic of the penal system. In 1972, while incarcerated at Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn, NY, Ray attended a life-changing Dale Carnegie Seminar, “How To Win Friends And Influence People.” This seminar had a profound impact on him, redirecting his life towards helping others and making a positive impact on their lives.
Fueled by his incarceration experience and his newfound desire to help others, Ray founded Operation Prison Gap in 1975. This pioneering initiative, started with the support of his family, provided transportation for people to visit their incarcerated loved ones in various New York State correctional facilities. At its peak, Operation Prison Gap operated more than 40 buses, serving 2,200 passengers per weekend and reaching nearly 50 correctional facilities. The operation continues to serve families today.
Ray’s dedication to uplifting others did not stop with Operation Prison Gap. He went on to establish YES I Can, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering youth through a two-week positive motivation course covering ten subjects. Additionally, Ray authored several self-help books, including “A Guide to Better Living for Our Veterans,” “Words of Wisdom,” “A Guide to Better Living for Our Youth,” and “A Guide to Help You Live a Better Life.” Each book aims to provide readers with the tools and insights needed to lead better, more fulfilling lives.
Ray Simmons’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination. From a challenging upbringing in the South Bronx to a life dedicated to helping others, Ray’s journey encourages everyone to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles.
